Tusk - Fleetwood mac
24th November 2023
It’s Friday, which means it’s time to share my album of the week!
My album of the week is: Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Before I talk about the album, here’s some fun facts about Fleetwood Mac that you may not know.Did you know that Fleetwood Mac actually debuted at a festival in England called the Wyndsor Jazz and Blues Festival? Mick Fleetwood actually dropped out of school at 15 years old to pursue his music career (and he was the co-founder of Fleetwood Mac, with John McKee, nicknamed Mac, forming the band’s name).
Back to Tusk... It was released in 1979, and the production costs are estimated at about $1.4m (estimated using internet figures). One of the reasons I really like this Fleetwood Mac album in particular, is because of how experimental it is.
It was an exceptionally experimental album for the time, and you can tell that the influence of New Age definitely took charge in this album. Due to it’s experimental nature, it was actually deemed a bit of a failure when it was first released, though it later went on to reach No. 1 in the UK.
I definitely consider Tusk a significant album in Fleetwood Mac’s discography, but it’s also an exceptionally significant album in the history of Rock music as a whole. Another thing I really like about this album is the photos you can find inside the sleeve. There’s some really wonderful artwork in this album (slightly ruined in the video by the 25 year-old tape.)
My favourite song on this album is Beautiful Child, it’s on Disc 2, Side B, Track 2. This song stands out to me because of the way it dives into how complex love, longing, and personal growth can be. The lyrics are exceptionally heartfelt, and it’s a really moving, very relatable piece of music. I think this song will really resonate with some of you, so please give it a listen if you haven’t heard it before.
With all that said, this album is a great one to listen to, because it’s phenomenal.

It’s Friday, which means it’s time to share my album of the week!
My album of the week is: To The Limit by Joan Armatrading
So who is Joan Armatrading? She’s released 20 Studio Albums over her almost 50-year recording career, and she was nominated for a Grammy award 3 times, and a Brit award twice! She was born in 1950 is Saint Christopher and Nevis (aka. Saint Kitts), and she moved to Birmingham in the UK, at 7 years old.
One of her most famous songs is called Love and Affection, and it was her first song to reach the top 10 in the UK charts. She’s also known for Drop the Pilot, The Weakness in Me, and Down to Zero.
On To the Limit, my favourite song is Your Letter. (I couldn’t play this in the video for copyright reasons, of course). It’s Track 2 on Side A. I’d really recommend giving it a listen! This song is about love and relationships. It’s got a real emotional depth to it, and there’s so many ways that it could be interpreted.
In addition, her voice sounds absolutely wonderful, and in this song, it really shines. There’s also some beautiful instrumental sections, especially that saxophone. You’ve got to give this song a listen to know exactly what I’m talking about.
So to the limit was released in... (This is the part in the video where the birds start making LOTS of noise in the background...)
