Tusk - Fleetwood mac

It’s Friday, which means it’s time to share my album of the week!

My album of the week is: Tusk by Fleetwood Mac

Before I talk about the album, here’s some fun facts about Fleetwood Mac that you may not know.Did you know that Fleetwood Mac actually debuted at a festival in England called the Wyndsor Jazz and Blues Festival? Mick Fleetwood actually dropped out of school at 15 years old to pursue his music career (and he was the co-founder of Fleetwood Mac, with John McKee, nicknamed Mac, forming the band’s name).

Back to Tusk... It was released in 1979, and the production costs are estimated at about $1.4m (estimated using internet figures). One of the reasons I really like this Fleetwood Mac album in particular, is because of how experimental it is.

It was an exceptionally experimental album for the time, and you can tell that the influence of New Age definitely took charge in this album. Due to it’s experimental nature, it was actually deemed a bit of a failure when it was first released, though it later went on to reach No. 1 in the UK.

I definitely consider Tusk a significant album in Fleetwood Mac’s discography, but it’s also an exceptionally significant album in the history of Rock music as a whole. Another thing I really like about this album is the photos you can find inside the sleeve. There’s some really wonderful artwork in this album (slightly ruined in the video by the 25 year-old tape.)

My favourite song on this album is Beautiful Child, it’s on Disc 2, Side B, Track 2. This song stands out to me because of the way it dives into how complex love, longing, and personal growth can be. The lyrics are exceptionally heartfelt, and it’s a really moving, very relatable piece of music. I think this song will really resonate with some of you, so please give it a listen if you haven’t heard it before.

With all that said, this album is a great one to listen to, because it’s phenomenal.
